CANADIAN CEMETERY GROESBEEK

GROESBEEK

Holten

The Canadian cemetery in Groesbeek is really a wonderful spot to visit when you are in the area. The spot they picked for this cemetery is so peaceful although it was a warzone ones. On May 4th, the Dutch Remembrance Day, the town of Groesbeek organizes a silent walk to the cemetery from downtown. It is a wonderful walk in a slightly hilly road.

In 2010, Canadian school children attended the Remembrance Day ceremony. They all adopted a grave and placed candles at the grave markers. A Very special Remembrance Day for us.

On this cemetery 2617 soldiers are buried. Most of them are Canadians (2332), but also British soldiers, Australian soldiers and soldiers from New Zealand, Russia, Holland, Joegoslavia, Poland and Belgium.

The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
